These earrings are hand cut from copper and hammered to give them texture as well as making them slightly concave.
They measure just under 1" wide and 2 1/2" long with the surgical steel earwires.
They have been given a verdigris patina which is sealed to preserve the color.
Reclamation in Jadeite Sculpture
Made from layers of cut paper and archival glue, my "Reclamation" sculptures and landscapes began as an attempt to return to nature when I was surrunded by the beauty of New York City. Although Central Park offered some refuge, it was never possible to really escape the sights and sounds of the city. With limited space to create my own life sized forest to escape into (apartment living in NYC can be tight to say the least), I sought materials that I could afford and easily store. It quickly dawned on me in my search that it would be fiting to use paper to create my trees and foliage. If I couldn't physically escape into them I would escape into the creation of these pieces In this way the idea of reclamations came about. Each piece is an attempt to not only create something but to return the material back into a semblance of its former self. It is also my hope that my reclamation pieces remind people of the fragility of our environment and the part they play in protecting it.
